In Skyrim you can completely ignore the story or follow only parts of it, or do quests for other factions and other storylines or ignore everything altogether and still spent 1000+ hours doing other stuff, modding it beyond recognition, changing almost every single aspect of it and you will always find new things to do. In Enderal, to get anywhere, you need to more or less follow the story, and there is only one story about you as Commnader She. You can mod Enderal further, but ultimately it does not allow great deal of flexibility in this regard, and you are always limited by the fact that it is more of vehicle for a self-contained story, which albeit interesting, does not have a shadow of originality to it ( \cough** Mass Effect \cough**), and there is only so many times you can do the same story over and over. Most of the time if you have a proverbial mountain in Enderal, it pretty much serves as a fence to prevent you from cutting cross country. No hidden gems to which you can get only by going somewhere completely unexpected. There are no vast, open spaces and mountains to climb and traverse off the beaten track. ![]() This is emphasized even more by the fact that the areas in Enderal, despite being cleverly designed to hide that fact, are in fact a series of corridors, directing you into paths with objectives lined up neatly along the way. And despite it having a huge, interesting and open(ish) world it by no means is a sandbox, which Skyrim absolutely is. Why?īecause first of all, Enderal is a mod and while it feels like a completely new game owing to the fact it is a complete conversion, it still is just that - a modification. I am sure I will get downvoted for saying it here, but as much as I like Enderal, I will say Skyrim hand downs, no contest. ![]() If Enderal wasn't literally built on top of Skyrim, if it'd been a completely new game, would these comparisons even be happening? No, they wouldn't. What people tend to forget, though, when comparing them, is how much Enderal relies on Skyrim's content. Also Enderal's combat system is a downgrade of Skyrim's, in some ways. I want to live in that world (the Elder Scrolls world in general) in a way I don't with Enderal's, particularly knowing the ending. The prophet’s path in Enderal is so tightly scripted I feel that as the player I’m just along for the ride. Enderal is filled with too-long info dumps, sometimes back to back.Ĩ) Skyrim gives players much more agency. It feels more flexible and lends itself to hybrids more readily.ħ) I like Skyrim’s narrative better. Granted, Ark feels larger and more complex than any of them.ĥ) I just can’t get interested in either game’s crafting systems, but I’ve gone further with Skyrim's.Ħ) I like Enderal’s talent trees a little better. Only Serana can compare to Calia, Jespar, Esme, Thareal or Arantheal.Ĥ) Skyrim has a broader world, with several cities each with its own unique character and most with player housing. Enderal has more to say about the human condition, though.ģ) Enderal’s character development is far and away better than Skyrim’s. Enderal makes no concession to this fact.Ģ) Both game’s stories are epic in scope, spanning ages. People learn by doing, as well as from books. 1) Skyrim’s skill system makes more sense to me. ![]() And that applies when used on macOS, iOS, Windows, and Android. It was only much later, when excavations were conducted that it was discovered the house had been built across a Roman Road. It was as though they were walking on a surface below the cellar of the house. He reported them carrying round shields, lances, and short swords.Īpparently they looked tired and battle weary - but the most interesting feature of this sighting is that their lower legs weren't visible. In 1953, while working on repairs in the cellar, a young workman heard the sound of a trumpet. Walking through the house, now owned by the National Trust, one can admire its architectural features and its lovely walled garden, but the overall impact is a bit like walking through a theatrical set. The flood maps are not predictions of where it will flood, and they don’t just show where it’s flooded in the past. In a statement to E&E News yesterday, FEMA Deputy Associate Administrator David Maurstad, who runs the agency’s mapping program, said: “It’s important to recognize what FEMA flood maps are and what they are not. The agency is refining the maps to capture flood risk more accurately. In Santa Rosa County, Fla., FEMA lists 10,900 properties in a flood zone, but First Street found 17,100 properties face a significant flood risk.įEMA has acknowledged shortcomings with its flood maps and said publicly that the maps give many people a false sense that they are protected from flooding if they are shown to be outside a flood zone. In Mobile County, Ala., on the Gulf Coast, FEMA lists 22,000 properties in a flood zone, while First Street found 39,000 properties face a significant flood risk. E&E News analyzed the 162 counties in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi in which FEMA declared an emergency on Monday and Tuesday. In the area hit by Hurricane Sally, nearly 250,000 properties are in First Street’s flood zones but not in FEMA’s flood zones, according to an E&E News analysis of First Street data. FEMA maps show only 8.6 million properties facing a 1% annual chance of flooding. properties face a 1% annual chance of being flooded. The result was that First Street found 14.6 million U.S. The First Street Foundation’s flood maps, released in June to national acclaim, highlighted the problem with FEMA’s maps by accounting for rain-related flooding. Flood insurance is sold separately from homeowners’ insurance policies, which do not cover flood damage. People outside flood zones have no requirement and typically do not buy flood coverage. That’s exactly what Harvey did,” Porter said.įEMA flood maps are crucial because many property owners who live in a high-risk flood zone are required under federal law to have flood insurance. The National Hurricane Center said Wednesday that Sally’s slow progress would create “a long period of heavy rainfall and historic flooding along the north-central Gulf Coast.” Sally’s slow movement over Gulf Coast states enabled it to drop extensive rain, similar to how Hurricane Harvey soaked Texas in 2017 and Hurricane Florence drenched North Carolina in 2018. “Unfortunately for homeowners in this area, that’s going to drive a lot of the flooding, because it’s heavily pluvial.” “They don’t take into account small creeks, tributaries and heavy pluvial events,” Porter said. The maps don’t include rainfall that causes flooding outside of streams, Porter said. That’s a problem, said Jeremy Porter, chief researcher at the First Street Foundation, a New York City nonprofit that gained national attention this year by creating high-definition floods maps for the nation.įEMA flood maps don’t account for all of the flooding caused by major rainstorms such as Hurricane Sally, which means that FEMA’s flood zones exclude properties vulnerable to rain-induced “pluvial” flooding, Porter said.įEMA maps account for rainfall only to the extent that rain causes rivers and larger streams to overflow. Roughly 500,000 customers remained without power in the Southeast. Flash flood watches were in effect from northern Georgia through the Carolinas into southeast Virginia. Sally made landfall along the Gulf Coast as a Category 2 hurricane Tuesday and was downgraded yesterday to a tropical depression. The major flooding caused by Sally this week exposes flaws in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s maps of the nation’s floodplains-flaws that lead homeowners to believe they do not face a significant flood risk and do not need flood insurance. Tens of thousands of homeowners flooded by Hurricane Sally face potentially large financial losses because the federal government lists them improperly as living outside a flood zone and does not require them to have flood insurance. My Bloody Valentine experienced a number of line-up changes during their initial months. Problems playing this file? See media help. Shields has since claimed he was unaware that My Bloody Valentine was the title of a 1981 Canadian slasher film when the name was suggested. Conway, who performed under the pseudonym Dave Stelfox, suggested a number of potential band names, including the Burning Peacocks, before the trio settled on My Bloody Valentine. Following A Life in the Day's dissolution, Shields and Ó Cíosóig formed My Bloody Valentine in early 1983 with lead vocalist David Conway. Shields and Ó Cíosóig later formed A Life in the Day, a post-punk trio, but failed to secure performances with more than a hundred people present. The band, who performed "a handful of gigs" consisting of Sex Pistols and Ramones songs, disbanded when Ó Maonlaí left to form Hothouse Flowers. The duo became friends in what has been described as "an almost overnight friendship" and later formed the Complex, a punk rock band, with Liam Ó Maonlaí, Ó Cíosóig's friend from Coláiste Eoin. In 1978, Kevin Shields and Colm Ó Cíosóig were introduced to each other at a karate tournament in South Dublin.
